Regions of Kenya
|
The main tourist regions of Kenya are the mountainous highlands of the
central region including the slopes of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares,
the Rift Valley lake region, the arid North which includes Samburu
National Park, the South Eastern parks Amboseli and Tsavo and, of
course, the famous Masai Mara Reserve in the South West. Many travelers
also add a visit to the coast. |
 |
Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares
Mt. Kenya and the Aberdares offer visitors an opportunity to experience ecosystems not usually associated with safari travel: alpine meadows and tall, dense forests. The area is rich in wildlife and offers many private reserves and ranches with excellent game viewing and other activities.
Lerai Tented Camp
On the northern foothills of Mt. Kenya, Lerai Tented Camp on the Lewa Downs Conservancy offers an unforgettable
combination of hospitality, privacy, spectacular scenery and abundant
wildlife. The camp comprises 12 permanent tents with en suite bathrooms
on raised platforms and a small cedar wood lodge with thatched roof
which houses the kitchen, bar, dining area and lounge. The private
Lewa Downs Conservancy is one of East Africa's most successful breeding
sanctuaries for the endangered black rhino. Activities include day
and night game drives and walks, horseback riding, and visits to
prehistoric sites. Lerai is also the starting point for camel safaris
into the "outback" of the conservancy.

The Great Rift Valley
The Great Rift Valley has the beautiful freshwater lakes of Naivasha, Baringo and Turkana and the "soda" lakes Bogoria, Nakuru and Elmentaita.
The region is famous for its thousands of flamingos and other water birds as well as for excellent fishing, boating and game viewing on private reserves.
Loldia House
Nestled under acacia trees is on one of Kenya's oldest
farms a 6,500 acre ranch which is set on the green shores of Lake
Naivasha. Guests stay in thatched cottages and can explore the ranch
on foot or by horseback. Fishing, bird walks and excursions to local
attractions are also available.

 |
The Masai Mara Reserve
Is on the southwest boundary of Kenya and one of Africa's finest places to witness the tense and dramatic interactions of wildlife.
The Mara has become familiar since it has been depicted in so many nature films with it's abundance of wildlife making game drives and balloon safaris so rewarding.
There are many tented camps or lodges but we would suggest:
Governors' Camp and Little Governors' Camp
Are perhaps
the most famous properties in the Mara. Both offer luxurious tented
accommodations, outstanding food and service, and spectacular game
viewing. Ballooning, walks and excursions to Mfangano Island Camp
on Lake Victoria are among the options available.
|
Mara Serena Lodge
Is an interpretation of a traditional
Masai Manyatta village of domed huts. This full service lodge is
set high on a hill giving spectacular views overlooking the rolling
plains, woodlands and rivers that make up the Mara Triangle.
