Day 1 On arrival in Cape Town you will be met by a representative from Wilderness Touring and transferred to the Cape Cadogan. Four nights on a bed & breakfast basis.
The Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel offers a rare combination of historic exteriors with classic modern bohemian interiors. This stately double-story Georgian which dates back to the early 19th century, was ‘Victorianized’ in 1912 and declared a National Monument in 1984.It is this charm and character, matched with its desirable location amongst the popular restaurants, street café’s and stylish boutique shops of Kloof Street, that makes this hotel a flagship in Cape Town.
The hotel offers complimentary transfers to and from the V&A waterfront four times daily as well as transfers and a complimentary membership to the Virgin Active in Wembley Square.
Day 2 This morning you will be met at your hotel for a half day Classic City Tour.
Includes basic entrance fees.
Drive to the Castle, the oldest building in South Africa, with its collection of Old Cape paintings and take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation on his release in 1990.
Walk through the Company Gardens, the fresh produce gardens for ships and locals during the 17th Century, and today home to the SA Museum - which we visit.
We see the South African parliament, National Gallery and St George's Cathedral. Stroll through the city to Greenmarket Square to browse African mementos at its bustling market stalls.
Move on to the District Six Museum to view a moving collection of stories, pictures and memorabilia highlighting the colorful life of this suburb which now stands empty, thanks to the destruction of homes and forced removal of residents during the height of the Apartheid era (own account).
Depart the city for the Lower Cableway Station to board the revolving cable car for a 5-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain. 1086 meters above sea level, it affords bird's-eye views of both city and Peninsula as you walk its summit (optional extra).
Day 3 This morning you will be met at your hotel for a private full day Classic Peninsula Tour. Includes basic entrance fees.
Depart the city along the Atlantic Seaboard - past the coastal suburbs of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton and stop for a photo op of Table Mountain's towering Twelve Apostles. On past Bakoven and Llandudno, marked by shipwrecks, to the fishing village of Hout Bay. Here, board a boat to view the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island (optional extra).
On return, head over the 600m heights of Chapman's Peak Drive, one of the world's most spectacular passes, past the Cape's longest beach near Noordhoek and the hamlets of Kommetjie and Scarborough - with a chance to sight Southern Right Whales just offshore from June to November!
Explore the rocky coastline and unique Fynbos vegetation, home to birds like African Black Oystercatchers and Cape Sugarbirds and view other endemic fauna like Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok and Baboon as we enter the Cape of Good Hope National Park. Climb (or ride a funicular, optional extra) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse, to capture the magical vistas of False Bay, and stop at the south westernmost point of Africa - the fabled Cape of Good Hope.
We stop for lunch (own account) and visit Boulders Beach, for a close-up with a colony of African Penguins. Drive through the naval village of Simonstown and over Boyes Drive, taking in views of the fishing harbor at Kalk Bay and the seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg.
Visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens - with time to browse these magnificent gardens set on the slopes of Table Mountain before returning to the city.
Day 4 Enjoy the day exploring Cape Town at your leisure.
Day 5 This morning transfer to the airport and fly to Upington. On arrival you will be met by a representative from Wilderness Touring and depart to Augrabies Falls. During the flower season this desert region explodes into a symphony of colors. One night at Augrabies Falls National Park chalets/lodges. Packed picnic lunch and dinner.
Activities at Augrabies include game drives to various viewpoints, walk to the Falls and hike the 5km Dassie Nature Trail. An optional sunset drive guided by a ranger in an open vehicle allows sights of nocturnal wildlife.
Day 6 Early departure to Springbok, situated in the heart of Namaqualand. We drive 300km through the vast open Bushman land to arrive in the afternoon at our guesthouse, before taking a leisurely drive around the town of Springbok. Three nights Olive Tree Guest House. Breakfast, packed picnic lunch, dinner daily.
Located in the Northern Cape Province, close to Namibia, Upington and on the main route to/from Cape Town, the 4 star Olive Tree is nestled against the mountain in the beautiful town of Springbok.
Day 7 We visit Goegap Nature Reserve and Hester Malan Flower Garden. The 15,000-hectare Goegap supports close to 600 indigenous flower, 45 mammal and 94 bird species. We spend the day in this large reserve, enjoying one of the most beautiful wonders that Nature has to offer us. After various game drives, we take a late-afternoon drive back to Springbok.
Day 8 Depart to Namaqua National Park (including Skilpad Nature Reserve).
The 103,000-hectare Namaqua showcase captures the full grandeur of the flower seasons. We spend the day at this reserve.
Day 9 Visit the mining town of Nababeed and the Mining Museum before the tour ends in Upington. One night at Three Gables Guest House. Breakfast, packed lunch, dinner.
Upington lies on the banks of the Orange River surrounded by the contrasting semi-desert landscape of the Kalahari. Three Gables is a charming 4 star guesthouse with a balcony overlooking a vast garden and a sparkling circular pool. The leafy garden is covered in the shade of huge poplar trees and features a 32 seat solid long-table.
Day 10 This morning transfer to the Upington airport for your journey home or onward arrangements.
Land Cost: $2,725.00 per person based on a minimum of 2 guests.
Payment: 50% deposit payable by check to confirm tour. Balance due 60 days prior to travel. Rates are quoted in rand at an exchange rate of 7.5 rand=1 dollar.
