Zimbabwe: From Wildlife to Waterfalls

See why Zimbabwe is enjoying a safari renaissance on an unforgettable 8-night adventure. From the wild expanses of Hwange National Park to the towering vistas of Victoria Falls, you’ll enjoy the breathtaking views and incredible wildlife that make Zimbabwe a country like no other. Whether you choose to start or finish your trip at Victoria Falls, you’ll travel between these areas by plane. This means you’ll have more time to soak up the sunset over the Zambezi River, watch elephants sip from waterholes, trek across plains with some of the world’s best guides, or simply admire the glittering constellations above on a night under the stars.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • View some of the largest elephant herds in Africa in the wild expanses of Hwange National Park.
  • Try your hand at catching tiger and bream fish on the mighty Zambezi River.
  • Explore Zimbabwe’s national parks on a walking safari with some of the world’s best guides (who might teach you how to “sneak up” on an elephant).
  • Spend a romantic night sleeping under the glittering African stars (at select camps).
  • Take in the wonder of iconic Victoria Falls, known as the “Smoke That Thunders,” and enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise down the lovely Zambezi.

TRIP TYPE

Custom trip with your choice of accommodations in traditional, classic, or luxury/premium camps.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

You can also reverse this itinerary to begin in Victoria Falls. Camps come at various price points and can be mixed and matched, but the best value is to use properties from a single lodging group.

ITINERARY DETAILS

Days 1-3:     Hwange National Park

Your Zimbabwe adventure begins with three nights in the heart of the vast Hwange National Park, known for its large herds of plains game, thriving big cat population and, of course, its many elephants.

Twice per day, you’ll head out on scenic game-viewing drives that will take you through small sections of forest and into Hwange’s famous open plains. Here, the action often centers around waterholes maintained by the park board, which draw predators and prey alike.

Days 4-6:     Mana Pools National Park

Leaving behind the wide, flat expanses of Hwange, you’ll fly to Mana Pools National Park on the banks of the Zambezi. Here, you’ll explore the forest and marshy floodplains along the river, enjoying the breathtaking backdrop of the hills of nearby Zambia.

The chance for game drives, sleep-outs, and ample river activities will give you a diverse safari experience in Mana Pools. Perhaps you’ll fish for tiger and bream fish (strictly catch and release) on the Zambezi, keeping an eye out for the crocodiles that lounge along the river’s edge. As the sun sets over the river, creating a spectacular show, you may find the nearby hippos serenade you as you fall asleep.

End your trip with a visit to magnificent Victoria Falls, one of the continent’s star attractions. Here, you can continue your inclusive safari experience at an intimate private camp outside the town, or treat yourself to a stay in one of the convenient hotels in town. Either way, you’ll have plenty to do after visiting the falls, including taking a guided nature walk, rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, and embarking on an epic helicopter or microlight flight. From there, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi is the perfect way to toast to your incredible adventure.
